LA Sheriff’s Deputies Admit to Aiding Crypto ’Godfather’ in Extortion Scheme
Two Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputies have pleaded guilty to leveraging their law enforcement authority to assist a cryptocurrency entrepreneur known as 'The Godfather' in extorting victims through armed confrontations and fraudulent warrants. David Anthony Rodriguez, 43, and Christopher Michael Cadman, 33, conspired with Adam Iza, a 24-year-old crypto businessman currently in federal custody, to intimidate and rob targets.
In one incident, Cadman and another deputy held a victim at gunpoint in Iza’s Bel Air mansion, coercing a $25,000 transfer. Rodriguez later falsified a search warrant to obtain GPS data for another victim. The case underscores the risks of corruption intersecting with the largely unregulated crypto industry.
